Urgent or Important?

If your struggling in terms of not having enough time to do the things you need to do, try prioritising all of your tasks according to their urgency and/or importance.

  • A ringing telephone might seem urgent, but calls are usually not important. Delegate this stuff.
  • Surfing sites like Facebook etc. is neither urgent or important. Dump this stuff.
  • Dealing with a genuine crisis is urgent and important. Do this stuff now.
  • Spending quality time with family is important, but not urgent. Decide when to do this stuff, BUT DO IT!

The last bullet point item is the most important one, but usually it gets neglected because of the lack of urgency. Neglect it for too long though and you’ll pay for it in the end with regret.
